College Bop

A "Bop" is a party often held at a college with copious drinking and dancing. Bops also involve dressing up in costume according to the theme of the bop. In this case, I attended the sci-fi & fantasy bop so a good portion of the party-goers were dressed as superheros, star trek officers, jedi, lord of the rings characters or doctor whos; there was even one full costume Na'vi.

The bop was held at the Balliol graduate accommodation (rumoured to be the nicest in Oxford). One common room served as the bar and the upstairs dining room worked well as a dance hall. Although if the principles who's portraits hung on the walls would be turning in their graves had they seen the crowd that managed to pack in there.

The bop was exceptionally well run (compared to North American college parties) with people being stopped at the door when the building had reached maximum capacity and all alcohol properly served. Entry was reasonable but not free, alcohol was much cheaper than a pub with a beer running you just 1 pound.

Sticking with the theme much of the sound track had a distinctly sci-fi theme to it early in the evening but passed 11pm it was solid club music. After ~4 hours of dancing I'm worn out but happy.

Goodnight!
